AkzoNobel’s powder coatings take landmark building to another level

AkzoNobel's powder coatings take landmark building to another level

Europe will soon have a new tallest building – and it’s being protected from the ravages of the Warsaw weather by a high class powder coatings system supplied by AkzoNobel.

Standing 310 meters tall, the Varso Tower – developed by international workspace provider HB Reavis – will dominate the skyline of the Polish capital. It features a sleek black exterior which has been created by using the company’s Interpon D2525 super-durable topcoat on the cladding and profiles in a striking Noir Sablé shade. Meanwhile, the Interpon Redox Plus primer provides a super tough core.

AkzoNobel is one of several A-list companies working on the project, including Foster and Partners, the world famous architectural firm who designed the structure.

“It’s inspiring to be working on this prestigious development with some of the leading names in the industry,” says Mattijn Klaver, Sales Manager Benelux for AkzoNobel Powder Coatings. “Customers now want the look of a liquid with the properties associated with powder. Our Interpon D range is available in a variety of on-trend colors and finishes. It’s also highly durable and combines sustainability with favorable economic benefits.”

Due to be completed in 2021, Varso Tower will feature an observation deck on the 53rd floor, offering spectacular views of the revitalized neighborhood.

“We have supplied market-leading products for architectural landmarks all over the world, so we’re excited to be involved in the Varso Tower project,” adds Daniela Vlad, Managing Director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business. “It means our passion for paint will be on view for all to see.”

The Interpon system will help the tower to withstand harsh conditions such as bright sunshine, fierce winds and driving rain. It will also be a beacon of sustainable building, as none of the company’s powders contain volatile organic compounds (VOC) or heavy toxic metals. In fact, AkzoNobel was the first global powder coatings supplier to obtain an Environmental Product Declaration back in 2015, underlining the company’s ongoing commitment to providing sustainable products for its customers.
